Tandem prepares for three Royals home games this weekend

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have signed forwards Jack Ceglarski and Brian Morgan. Both are rookies from the Southern Professional Hockey League. Ceglarski ripped seven goals and 13 points (15 GP) with Huntsville. Morgan has six goals and 12 points in 16 games with Pensacola.

Ceglarski, 25, played in Pennsylvania 2011-13 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights (AtJHL) before joining SUNY-Geneseo for four seasons. A former captain of SUNY-Geneseo, he started his professional career with Indy last season (5 GP) and moved to the SPHL this season. His grandfather, Len, was the Head Coach of Clarkson University from 1959-72 and Boston College’s Head Coach from 1972-92. Len retired as college hockey’s all-time wins leader (673-339-7 record).

Morgan played three seasons of college hockey at Maine and skated with UConn in 2016-17. Over four NCAA years, he scored 24 goals and 46 points. The Windham, NH native skated in the USHL with the Indiana Ice and Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2012-13, recording 31 points.

Royals start huge home weekend vs. Nailers

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals (13-8-2-0, 28 pts., 3rd North) have three games at Santander Arena this weekend and start the stretch Friday at 7:00 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers (14-9-2-0, 30 pts., 2nd North). Reading is 8-1-0-0 at home.

The Royals have seven of their next eight games at home. Reading has two games against the Nailers this weekend.

Join the Royals Sat., Dec. 16 for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game and Ugly Sweater Jerseys against Wheeling at 7:00 p.m. Plus, the first 2,000 fans receive a Royals Christmas ornament, presented by Met-Ed.

Reading is 3-1-1-0 against the Nailers this season. The Royals lost their only home game of the season against the Nailers on Nov. 26.

Sunday features $5 Green Zone tickets, magnet photo frame giveaway and dollar dogs, presented by Tower Health.

Such a strong home start
The Royals are 8-1-0-0 at home and a win Friday ties team record for the best ten-game home start ever. In 2005-06, Reading began 9-1-0-0 at home. Reading won its first seven home games this season, tying that Royals squad for the most consecutive wins to begin a season at Santander Arena.

At home this season, the Royals have outscored opponents, 35-21. In 2005-06, the team dropped five straight home games after the 9-1-0-0 beginning. That squad won 22 games at home.

Emotional games
The Royals and Nailers have seemingly had ramping drama and intensity in their last three matchups. On Dec. 1, the Royals overcame a third-period deficit for a 4-3 win. The teams had three suspensions result from infractions the next night in Wheeling, a 5-4 OT loss. That game, the Royals had a season-high 28 PIMs and the teams combined for 38 PIMs in the second frame.

On Dec. 6, Reading defeated Wheeling, 2-1, in its third straight game against the Nailers. Royals Head Coach Kirk MacDonald entered the camera well for words with Wheeling’s Jeff Christian halfway through the third period.

Four of the five matchups have been one-goal games and Reading is 2-1-1-0 in those games.

Keeping track of the roster moves
In the last week, the Royals have made a number of roster moves. Here’s an easy catch up.
1) F Steven Swavely, F Alex Krushelnyski: recalled from loan by Lehigh Valley
2) D Frank Hora: returned on loan by Lehigh Valley
3) F Jack Ceglarski and F Brian Morgan signed and added to active roster.

Scouting Wheeling
The Nailers have won consecutive games and last defeated Indy, 3-2, on Tuesday. Troy Josephs scored the go-ahead goal and game-winner at 6:29 of the third. The 2017 Clarkson graduate has four points (2g, 2a) in four games since coming to the Nailers from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL).

Cody Wydo assisted on the most-recent game-winning goal and tops Wheeling with 29 points in 24 games. Reid Gardiner (11g, 24 pts.) and Cam Brown (4g, 23 pts.) rank in the top-five of the league among rookies in points.

Wydo and Garrett Meurs are tied for a team-best seven goals. The last time Meurs faced the Royals (Dec. 2), he tripped Chase Golightly and received a two-game suspension from the ECHL for the infraction.

The Nailers have had four goaltenders play this season. Adam Morrison has received the majority of the recent starts and has a 2.89 goals against average and .905 save percentage in seven games.

Reading, PA – Reading Royals goaltender Mark Dekanich tied a career high with 50 saves and Reading scored three quick goals in the first to shut out the Wheeling Nailers, 4-0, Friday at Santander Arena. Four Royals notched multi-point games.

Scott Tanski (1g, 1a) scored with eight minutes left in the first. Matt Willows (2g) and Michael Huntebrinker (1g, 1a) scored eight seconds apart to jet the Royals to a 3-0 edge with 1:25 to go in the frame. Adam Morrison lost allowing four goals on 38 shots.

Mark Dekanich made 21 saves in the second frame, matching his season-best in a period. Through two periods, Dekanich was perfect with 33 denials. In the third, he denied 17 shots. Dekanich last had 50 stops in Game 5 of the 2017 North Division Semifinals, a 2-1 OT loss to Brampton.

The Royals rematch Wheeling Sat., Dec. 16 for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game and Ugly Sweater Jerseys at 7:00 p.m. Plus, the first 2,000 fans receive a Royals Christmas ornament, presented by Met-Ed. Reading plays Adirondack Sunday at 4 p.m., featuring $5 Green Zone tickets, magnet photo frame giveaway and dollar dogs, presented by Tower Health.

Box Score

Tanski scored his first goal of the season with 8:01 to go in the frame, sniping it from the left dot to the far post. He entered the zone on the rush after Michael Huntebrinker chipped him the puck up the wall. Brian Morgan earned the secondary assist in his first ECHL game.

The end-of-first-period explosion started with Willows’ eighth of the season, assisted by Chris McCarthy and Tanski. Willows shot it off his back heel from the left circle. It deflected and waffled over Morrison’s left shoulder.

Off the ensuing face-off, Reading entered the zone on the left-wing side. A shot from Ryan Penny jabbed off Morrison’s left pad, settling perfectly at the right circle for Huntebrinker. The rookie forward slammed home his sixth of the season. That goal gave Reading a comfortable 3-0 edge after one. Nick Luukko had the secondary assist.

With nine minutes left in the second, Willows potted his second of the night on a two-on-one with McCarthy. Willows patiently waited for a cross-ice pass at the right circle. Derek Whitmore received the secondary assist. Willows leads the Royals with 23 points this season.

The Royals were 0-for-1 on the man up and fended off all three Wheeling power-play chances.

Teddy Bear Toss, Christmas Ornament Giveaway, Ugly Sweater Jerseys

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals (14-8-2-0, 30 pts., T-2nd North) hold their annual teddy bear toss, hand out 2,000 Christmas ornaments and wear ugly sweater jerseys in a Saturday showdown with the Wheeling Nailers (14-10-2-0, 30 pts., T-2nd North) Saturday at 7 p.m. The Christmas ornaments are courtesy of Met-Ed.

Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to throw on the ice after the Royals score their first goal, with bears going to more than a dozen local children’s charities. Next Monday, Dec. 18, Royals players will be handing out the bears to kids in need, including at Tower Health.

Last night, Reading shut out Wheeling, 4-0, and Mark Dekanich tied a career high with 50 saves. The Royals are 4-1-1-0 in the 11-game season series against the Nailers. Reading scored three goals in the first period.

Reading is also home Sunday vs. Adirondack for a 4 p.m. puck drop. It’s $5 Green Zone tickets, magnet photo frame giveaway and dollar dogs, presented by Tower Health.

Dex Power
Mark Dekanich’s 50-save performance was his 19th career shutout and first of the season. He had last earned a perfect performance against Elmira in Feb. 2017 while with the Royals. Over the last 3 games, he has made 50, 41 and 47 saves and allowed six goals.

50 saves – where do they stack up?
Dekanich’s 50 saves rank as the second-most saves a Royals goaltender has earned in a shutout. The top-three performances have been against Wheeling.

1) Mark Owuya – 55 saves vs. WHL 3/28/2012

2) Mark Dekanich – 50 saves vs. WHL 12/15/2017

3) Matt Dalton – 48 saves vs. WHL 2/18/2011

Teddy Bear Toss history
The Royals have won their last three teddy bear toss games and four of five. Last season, the Royals defeated Indy, 3-1, and Chris McCarthy scored the tossing goal halfway through the first. The Royals have scored in the first period of their teddy bear toss in four of the last five, alleviating the stress of having to hold on to the bears.

In 2014, the Royals beat South Carolina, 2-0, but didn’t score until 1:38 of the third period on a goal by David Marshall.

Give us a break
The Royals will face the Nailers for the sixth time in nine games Saturday but receive a respite after the Teddy Bear Toss matchup; they do not play again until Jan. 26. The next Reading home game against the Nailers is Feb. 18.

The teams play back-to-back games once more in the 11-game series: March 9-10 in West Virginia.
Flyers Flash

The Flyers have won five straight games and last defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 2-1, on Thursday. The win streak comes after Philadelphia dropped ten consecutive contests. The Flyers are 13-11-7, good for 33 points.

Jakub Voracek leads the team with 31 assists and 38 points. He has eight assists in his last five games.  Sean Couturier has 15 goals to lead the squad. The Flyers match the Dallas Stars from the Wells Fargo Center Saturday.

Phantoms update

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms dropped their last game at Charlotte and return home Saturday to face the red-hot Syracuse Crunch (ten-game win streak).

Phantoms forward Phil Varone has 30 points and ranks in the league’s top-five. Despite being recalled earlier in the season, Danick Martel is still the league leader with 15 goals.

John Muse has played in two games with the Phantoms since his recall (1-1-0-0 record). Dustin Tokarski is 7-2-2-1 in 14 appearances with a 3.36 goals against average and .888 save percentage.

Head-to-Head

The Royals have points in four straight games against the Nailers (3-0-1-0) and the team has had balanced scoring.

Matt Willows has four goals and seven points against the Nailers. He is coming off a two-goal night Friday. Mark Naclerio also has seven points. Eight Reading players have goals against the Nailers.

Mark Dekanich has allowed six goals in three starts against the Nailers (2-0-1-0 record).

Hunter Fejes has a series-best five goals and seven points for the Nailers in the series. Cody Wydo has three goals and five points.

Last Time Out
Royals goaltender Mark Dekanich tied a career high with 50 saves and Reading scored three quick goals in the first to shut out the Wheeling Nailers, 4-0, Friday at Santander Arena.

Dekanich made 21 saves in the second frame, matching his season-best in a period. Through two periods, Dekanich was perfect with 33 denials. In the third, he denied 17 shots. Dekanich last had 50 stops in Game 5 of the 2017 North Division Semifinals, a 2-1 OT loss to Brampton.

Reading, PA – Adam Schmidt scored halfway through the third to make the bears rain on Teddy Bear Toss night, but the Wheeling Nailers scored the first three goals and defeated the Reading Royals, 4-2, Saturday at Santander Arena. The Royals will visit Tower Health on Mon., Dec. 18 to hand out bears and brighten children’s’ faces. Reading will pass out bears to needy children at more than a dozen locations before the holidays.

The Royals scored two goals in last 11 minutes of the third period but failed to tie despite 39 shots on Will King (win, 37 saves). The win moves Wheeling two points ahead of Reading (30 points) for second in the North Division.

Wheeling’s Kevin Schulze scored the opening goal on the power play in the final minute of the second. It was the 20th shot Mark Dekanich faced. Including Friday’s shutout (50 saves), Dekanich made 69 straight saves. He lost despite 24 stops.

Reading plays Adirondack Sunday at 4 p.m., featuring $5 Green Zone tickets, magnet photo frame giveaway and dollar dogs, presented by Tower Health.

$5 tickets, $1 hot dogs, magnet photo frame giveaway

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals (14-9-2-0, 30 pts., 3rd North) give away magnet photo frames, $5 Green Zone tickets and $1 hot dogs in their matchup with the Adirondack Thunder (13-11-1-1, 28 pts., 4th North) Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

It is the Reading’s third straight home game; the Royals are 1-1-0-0 through the first two. Saturday, Reading scored two goals in the third period and lost 4-2 to Wheeling in the annual Teddy Bear Toss games. The Royals will donate the collected bears to more than a dozen charities and hospitals benefiting needy children. Reading collected 2,344 bears.

The Royals are 6-0-0-0 against the Thunder this season, last winning, 5-1, on Dec. 8. Reading has outscored the Thunder, 30-14, in the season series. Reading won seven of the 11 matchups all last season. The squads face off 14 times in 2017-18.

Reading is at Worcester on Wed., Dec. 20 at 7:00 p.m. The Royals return home for a pair of home games before the holiday break vs. Manchester on Dec. 22-23 at 7:00 p.m. Season ticket holders receive a team license plate on Dec. 23, courtesy of Tower Health.

Head-to-Head

This is the best start the Royals have ever had in a season series against Adirondack since the Thunder joined the ECHL in 2015-16. Reading is 18-8-3 against the Thunder.

Matt Willows tops the Royals with 10 points (3g) against Adirondack. Ryan Penny had an assist in the last matchup and leads Reading with five goals in the series. Nolan Zajac scored Reading’s only short-handed goal of the season last time against Adirondack and has three goals and eight points in the series. Captain Derek Whitmore has three goals this season, all against the Thunder.

Reading’s Mark Dekanich is 3-0-0-0 against Adirondack and has allowed six goals. Last time out, he made 47 saves on 48 shots, including 21 in the second period. Thunder goalie Nick Riopel is 0-4-1-0 against the Royals and Drew Fielding is 0-1-0-0.

Last Time Out
Royals forwards Adam Schmidt scored halfway through the third and Brian Morgan also tallied in a 4-2 loss to Wheeling. Schmidt scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal to make it 3-1 Nailers. He has four goals in his first ECHL season.

Morgan’s goal was his first in the ECHL and provided the Royals with momentum in the final six minutes. Will King made 37 saves to defeat the Royals. Mark Dekanich had 24 saves in the loss.

Scouting Adirondack
The Adirondack Thunder have reworked their roster and remained highly competitive despite recent call ups and loans. The team lost D Matthew Spencer, D Mathieu Brodeur, D Dylan Olsen, D Kevin Lough to AHL loans in early December. To make up for the numbers crunch at the blue line, the Thunder signed D Travis Armstrong, F Justin MacDonald and F Evan Neugold. On Dec. 13, Adirondack acquired D Blake Thompson from Cincinnati.

Since the last game against the Royals Dec. 8, Adirondack is 2-2-0-0. Last game at Worcester, the Railers scored three in the second period to defeat the Thunder, 5-1.

Without leading scorer Ty Loney (loaned to Syracuse in AHL), Eric Neiley paces the squad with nine goals. He is tied with James Henry and Shane Conacher for a team-best 18 points.

End of the three-in-three
The Royals finish up a stretch of three straight home games Fri.-Sun. Reading only has two more occasions this season where it plays three home games on three consecutive days.

In the final game of a three-in-three, the Royals are 1-1-0-0.

Through the night
Sunday’s game is the fourth time this season the Thunder endured at least a 300-mile drive the night before playing Reading. The Royals have outscored Adirondack, 17-10, in the first three games. On Oct. 29, the well-rested Royals defeated the Thunder, 9-4, after Adirondack road tripped to Santander Arena through the night. It was the second-most goals Reading has ever scored in a game.

The Thunder also finished up a twelve-game road trip against the Royals on Nov. 24 and John Muse pitched a 30-save shutout in a 2-0 Reading victory.

Royals tie for second in North with win at Railers

Worcester, MA – The Reading Royals (14-10-2-0, 30 pts., T-3rd North) swing up to Massachusetts for a divisional battle at the Worcester Railers (10-9-2-2, 24 pts., 6th North) Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. It is the fourth matchup of the season series and all have been in Worcester. The Royals are 1-2-0-0 against the Railers this season.

The North Division remains closely contested, with ten points separating first (Manchester, 34 pts.) and last-place Worcester. Reading ties Wheeling for second in the North with a win.

Wednesday’s game is Reading’s last road game until New Year’s Eve. The Royals play four straight home games starting Fri., Dec. 22 vs. Manchester. Stay after the game Friday for the Royals’ holiday carol video. On Sat., Dec. 23rd, Reading rematches the Monarchs and it is the postgame ham shoot! Eleven Royals earned points in the three games. Alex Krushelnyski (now in the AHL with Lehigh Valley) led the team with three points in three games (1g, 2a). Nick Luukko scored the game-winning goal Nov. 6.  Mark Naclerio has two goals against the Railers.

Worcester defenseman Patrick McNally (1g, 3a) leads all Railers with four points in the series. Matty Gaudreau and Woody Hudson each have two goals.

Schmidt consistent
Adam Schmidt has goals in consecutive games for the second time this season. In 24 games, the first-year Royals forward has five goals and 16 points. He has recorded points in 15 contests.

This is Schmidt’s first full season playing in North America. From 2014-17, the 27-year-old played in Sweden overseas. After playing four seasons with The College of the Holy Cross, he took his talents across town to finish the 2013-14 season and skated in 14 games with the Worcester Sharks (AHL).

Lot of home ones left
The Royals and the Railers have ten matchups remaining after Wednesday’s tilt and eight are at Santander Arena. Reading is home to Worcester for the first time on Thurs., Dec. 28 with $5 Green Zone tickets. The Royals play the Railers in three straight home games from Jan. 6-10.

Reading’s newest addition
Due to call ups and minor injuries, the Royals have reworked their roster on the fly and Monday acquired forward Jimmy DeVito from Rapid City in exchange for future considerations. DeVito is 23 years old, a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduate and will wear #23 with the Royals.

The rookie accumulated five goals, 15 points, 25 penalty minutes and three fighting majors in 21 games with Rapid City. The native of Bloomingdale, IL has four multi-point games. DeVito captained RPI in 2016-17.

Scouting Worcester

Former Royals forward Chris Langkow tops Worcester with 22 points and scored two goals Saturday against Adirondack. Langkow has five goals and nine points over a season-best five-game point streak.

Goaltender Eamon MacAdam was recalled from loan by Bridgeport and Joe Spagnoli was added as an emergency back-up goaltender. Mitch Gillam is 4-4-0-0 with a 2.77 goals against average and .893 save percentage.

🎅 Meet Santa and win a ham at the game 🎅

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals (14-12-2-0, 30 pts., T-4th North) finish out the weekend hoping for holiday cheer at Santander Arena against the Manchester Monarchs (18-9-1-1, 38 pts., 1st North) Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Santa will be at Saturday’s game it’s the postgame ham shoot! Come down after the game on the ice, shoot a puck in to the net and take a holiday ham home with you. The team is off from Dec. 24-27.

Michael Huntebrinker scored Reading’s two goals in a 5-2 defeat Friday. Mark Dekanich made 39 saves. Manchester’s Jordan Smotherman scored two goals for the second straight game against the Royals.

Manchester leads the season series, 2-1. Goaltender Charles Williams has picked up victories in the last two games, allowing three goals on 53 shots.

After today’s showdown, the Royals are home Thurs., Dec. 28 at 7:00 p.m. against the Worcester Railers with $5 Green Zone tickets. It’s APHILLYation night with a player postgame autographs, courtesy of Rieck’s printing.

Huntebrinker dominates
Rookie Michael Huntebrinker recorded his first professional multi-goal game Friday, lighting the lamp twice in Reading’s loss to Manchester. He has eight goals and 13 points in 21 games this season. Last season, he had four goals the entire campaign (39 GP) as a senior with Minnesota State. This is Huntebrinker’s best offensive production since he recorded 18 goals and 42 points in 46 games with the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks in 2012-13.

Huntebrinker had one multi-goal game in his collegiate career; Dec. 15, 2015 vs. Alabama-Huntsville. The native of St. Louis, MO has four points (3g, 1a) against the Monarchs this season.

Former allies
Manchester joined the ECHL in 2015-16 after competing in the AHL from 2001-15 as the Kings’ AHL affiliate. The Monarchs “flipped” leagues with the Ontario Reign, who became the Los Angeles’ Kings top partner.

The Monarchs and Royals have both been the Kings affiliates. From 2001-05 and 2006-08, the Royals were the Kings’ ECHL partner and sent players up to Manchester.

Current Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick is the most-notable standout from the Royals’ and Monarchs’ affiliation days. Quick played in 38 games with the Royals and ascended to Manchester for 35 before becoming an NHL regular in 2008-09.

Trading in jerseys for sport coats
Royals Head Coach Kirk MacDonald and Monarchs head man Richard Seeley both played for the teams they now instruct. MacDonald won the 2013 Kelly Cup with the Royals and recorded 77 points with Reading in two seasons (2008-09, 2012-13).  He played professional hockey for six seasons before joining his alma mater, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, as an assistant for 2013-14. He returned as a Royals assistant from 2014-17 and was named Head Coach this offseason.

Seeley is in his third season behind the bench as Monarchs Head Coach and for Manchester (2001-04, 2005-06). He wore a leadership letter in each of his four seasons with the team and was a two-time captain. Since returning to Manchester as Head Coach, his career record is 84-57-12-10.

Strength on strength
The Monarchs are 12-4-1-1 on the road and the Royals are 9-4-0-0 at home. Manchester is the highest-scoring team on the road (80 GF) and has allowed 54 tallies. The success has included a five-game point streak and four-game winning streak away from SNHU Arena. On the flip side, the Royals have yet to notch a winning streak on the road.

The Royals matched their best home start ever by beginning 7-0-0-0 at home. The team also tied the 2005-06 squad for the best ten-game home start ever (9-1-0-0). Manchester has heated up lately with three straight home wins after beginning the campaign 3-5-0-0 at SNHU Arena.

Reading, PA – Reading Royals forward Jimmy DeVito scored his first Royals goal in a 6-2 loss to the Manchester Monarchs Saturday at Santander Arena. Ryan Penny also scored for Reading.

The Royals are 14-13-2-0, good for 30 points. Reading had 34 points at the same point last season.

Manchester had three goals in the second and jumped to a 4-0 lead through two. Matt Marcinew, Matt Schmalz and Jordan Smotherman tallied. Smotherman punctuated the middle period with a shot at the right post that solved Dekanich with 1:31 to go in the frame.

Penny deflected a shot at the slot to pull Reading within three at 6:39 of the frame. Hora shot it from the right blue line. Penny has eight goals this season.

Reading allowed two more goals before DeVito’s shot from the bottom of the right circle sniped over Komm’s shoulder. DeVito has six goals this season. The native of Bloomingdale, IL has played in three games with Reading since the Royals acquired him from Rapid City last week.

Martin Nemcik provided the Monarchs with the first goal, one-timing in his first of the season on a slap shot from the high slot. Mikkel Aagaard assisted at 14:32 of the first. The Monarchs led by one after one.

DeVito’s Reading welcome
Rookie Jimmy DeVito scored his first Royals goal on Saturday against Manchester. He has played in three games with the Royals. Reading acquired the RPI graduate from Rapid City on Dec. 19 for future considerations. In 24 games, he has six goals and 17 points.

DeVito’s professional start has revealed his scoring flair relative to his collegiate numbers. In 121 NCAA games, DeVito recorded seven goals and 26 points. He is one goal and nine points away from matching his four-year collegiate total. Remarkably, the Bloomingdale, IL native hasn’t recorded more than six goals in a season since notching eight in 2011-12 with the USHL’s Chicago Steel.

Similar to DeVito, rookie Michael Huntebrinker has boosted his scoring with respect to his NCAA statistics. Huntbrinker leads Royals rookies with seven goals (12 points) and never scored more than seven in a season at Minnesota State.

Getting off the schneid
The Royals have dropped a season-high five straight games. Despite this, the Royals have had more power-play opportunities than opponents (14 vs. 12). Reading has generated 33 shots per game. With goaltender John Muse recalled in Lehigh Valley, Mark Dekanich has appeared in ten straight games and posted a 3.02 GAA and .919 save percentage.

Reading has been without regulars Tyler Brown and Matt Wilkins due to injury. Reading has allowed 22 goals and scored eight over the skid.

Head-to-head
The Royals are 1-3-0-0 against the Railers this season. Worcester defeated Reading, 1-0, in the last meeting Dec. 20. Former Royals forward Barry Almeida scored the only goal. Mark Dekanich had 28 saves last time the teams met and has given up six in three games. Mitch Gillam shut out Reading with 26 saves and is 2-0-0-0 against the Royals this season (1 GA on 53 shots).

Reading bested Worcester, 3-1, Nov. 5 for the Royals’ only victory ever against the Railers. Mark Naclerio has two goals against Worcester.

Pat McNally recorded an assist last game and has five points (1g, 4a) in the series to lead all players.

Scouting Worcester
The Railers had five players score in a 5-3 victory at Adirondack in their last game before the holiday break. Pat McNally scored his 11th of the season and tops the team and league defensemen in goals. He ranks second on the team with 22 points. Chris Langkow leads the squad with 24 points and has five goals in seven games.

Goaltender Mitch Gillam has two shutouts this season, tied for the league lead. In 10 games, he is 5-5-0-0 with a 2.51 goals against average and .901 save percentage. Eamon MacAdam (7-5-2-2 record) comes in with a 2.67 GAA and .918 save percentage. MacAdam is 1-1-0-0 against the Royals.

Six Royals score, Willows nets three points

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals scored two goals separated by seven seconds early on and the Royals glided to a 6-2 victory over the Worcester Railers Thursday at Santander Arena. Six Royals scored and five had multi-point games. Matt Willows topped the squad with three points (1g, 2a). A joyous crowd of 4,093 watched Reading’s triumph.

Michael Huntebrinker started the scoring on the power play at 4:28 of the first. Jimmy DeVito potted seven seconds later, matching the fastest back-to-back goals in a Royals game this season. Chris McCarthy (1g, 1a) gave Reading a 3-0 edge six minutes later. The Royals led by two after one.

Frank Hora and Ryan Penny each had two assists.

Reading scored twice more in the second and led, 5-2, through 40 minutes. Adam Schmidt netted Reading’s second short-handed goal of the season.

John Muse made 37 saves in his first start since being returned on loan from Lehigh Valley. The Railers replaced Eamon McAdam (18 saves, 23 shots) after two periods. Mitch Gillam allowed a goal on seven shots in relief.

Box Score

Huntebrinker spiked one out of the air at the right post for the first goal on the man up. Willows centered it to him through the slot. The rookie Huntebrinker grabbed it out of the air and set it on the tee for a baseball shot and line drive into the back of the net. McCarthy received the second helper.

Off the ensuing face-off, Penny cut across the line and centered one for DeVito to score at the left post seven seconds later. Frank Hora had the second assist.

Hora once again factored in with great awareness for the third goal. Willows was open behind the defense and Hora threw it to him down the ice. It ricocheted into the left corner and Willows pitched it to McCarthy at the left post. He was wide open and slammed it in.

Woody Hudson scored with 2:57 to go in the first to cut the lead to 3-1.

Schmidt’s short-handed marker pushed the Royals to a 4-1 edge at 2:07 of the frame. After a Worcester giveaway, he snuck behind the defense, waggled at the bottom of the left circle, faked the backhanded shot and stuffed it far post to the top shelf for his sixth of the season.

Worcester managed their second marker with 6:35 to go in the period on Jeff Kubiak’s third of the campaign.

Nolan Zajac snapped in Reading’s fifth goal 30 seconds later. A pass from the bottom of the left circle wafted into the slot and Zajac stepped in to power it through MacAdam. Mark Naclerio had the second assist.

At 8:03 of the third, Willows smacked the puck in off a slot pass from Schmidt and Reading completed its scoring.

The Royals were 1-for-3 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-4 on the man up.
